Outcomes

A FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) study has been documented as a result of this project. 

ROSEN provided a comprehensive technical report of the initial findings of the Duraseal project, covering Phase 2 (component level testing), Phase 3 (GIS /LC1 testing) and Phase 4 (long term testing based on GIS / LC8 part 1).

ROSEN have since provided a final report, summarising the main findings from the study.                                                                                                                                                               

To compliment field trials, a G23 trial document has been completed, with each trial having a report to summarise findings. The G23 closure report will be completed once all trials have been held. 

In addition to the Duraseal NIA Joint Repair project, Cadent have initiated a non-NIA Duraseal Pipe Barrel project, looking to confirm that the technique can be used on other pipe materials and leakage types.

Lessons Learnt

The project has highlighted some valuable lessons:

·       The Gas industry standard LC1 was under review and consultation by the Technical Standards Forum when the project initialised. Meaningful engagement with the TSF and BSI was vital to resolving any ambiguity within the standards. 

·       It is no longer possible to purchase bolted gland types of mechanical joints that meet LC1 standards for laboratory testing. The most applicable standard to have them manufactured is an ANSI standard identified which matches the dimensions of exhumed joints provided by WWU. This required the project team to propose to the Technical Standards Forum 'deviation' from LC1.

·       The project team worked and continue to work effectively to manage all project risks commercially and to project timelines. This was vital to the continuation of the project throughout the pandemic.
